Pekins

Pekins are a very popular breed with loads of colours to choose from. I keep Pekins in Lemon Cuckoo and Buff and in the future hope to keep Silver Partridge and Columbian. I think Pekins are one of the best bantam pure breed for beginners, they are friendly and calm birds making them a great breed for children. Also they are just so round and cuddly making them a popular choice. They are good layers of small white eggs and make fab mums! Pekins are true bantams meaning that there is no larger version of the breed. Pekins have short and feathered legs so to house a Pekin you don`t need lots of room (but as with all chickens, the more room the better). I would recommend that you should cover a small run to protect it from rain as the smaller runs can get wet and muddy making it unpleasent for the birds.

There are12 Standardised colours in the UK they are Buff, Lavender, Black, Blue, Birchen, White, Mottled, Cuckoo, Partridge, Barred, Silver Partridge and Columbian.

I have now SOLD my Pekins and no longer keep this breed.
